Mercedes-Benz is investing $1.3 billion to expand its plant near Tuscaloosa, Ala., adding 300 jobs. Not only will the plant continue to assemble Mercedes' current and future SUVs, it will be expanded to include future hybrid versions of the vehicles as well.
"In the next (few) years, we will invest $1.3 billion into the expansion of our SUV production and turn the Mercedes-Benz plant Tuscaloosa into a high-tech location," says Markus Schäfer, a Mercedes' manufacturing and supply chain executive, in a statement. "In this way we can produce the next SUV generations even more flexibly, efficiently and in proven top quality."
