Scope: Supply & Install 4,000 Tonnes structural steel for aircraft maintenance hangar
Project Name: CFB Trenton Hangar 1 Project Owner: Government of Canada, DND (Defense Construction Canada – DCC) Location: CFB Trenton, Ontario Consultant: SNC Lavalin
James Paul, president of Defence Construction Canada, said the state of the art facility is most notable for its sheer size and technology.
“In the old days hangars were large, brick mortar and steel buildings. But today the analogy I would use is they are more like a computer docking stations – fully supporting the specific airframe from the moment it pulls into the hangar,” said Paul, noting the structure is all about the technology.
More than 4,000 tonness of steel was used to erect the building.
“These are impressive numbers and what’s more impressive is the commitment of the entire project team,” said Paul.
